Part of Good Earth’s mission is to support local growers and
producers who themselves are committed to healthy and
sustainable foods, goods and business practices. And why
have we made this choice, when there are so many options
available to us?
Well, first of all we believe in
the mantra “act locally, think globally”. As we support
local farmers, ranchers and manufacturers, the more products
they are able to produce. That benefits all of us not only
by expanding the number and types of products available to
us, but also by the creating additional green jobs and
strengthening our economy. It also helps to ensure that
farmlands aren’t sold for development.
And buying
local has ecological benefits as well as economic ones.
Because these products are not being shipped to or from long
distances, less fossil fuel and energy is consumed and less
carbon is emitted. In addition, less packaging is needed to
keep food fresh in transit—thus lowering the amount of
non-recyclables headed into our landfills.
